Enclosures

Pool Enclosures FAQ

  • How much are the enclosures/Are they so much per section?
We offer any width up to 22m and each section is generally 2.1m but we can manufacture any size.  There is no set cost because there are lots of variations to choose from.
  • How much will an enclosure cost to cover my pool?
The price obviously depends on the size of enclosure. The price also depends on the roof shape, whether it’s a low, medium or full height building, against the wall or made up of double sections. We also offer bespoke design, options on the door styles - sliding or concertina and an option of with windows, clear, frosted or tinted glass. The price is therefore variable but the quality will always remain the same.
  • Is the price quoted guaranteed?
Once we have given a written quotation it is valid for 60 days. If the order is placed within this time we honour the price.  No change is therefore made once a price has been agreed.
  • How long does it take from ordering an enclosure to delivery?
This will depend on the time of year. Sometimes in the winter months it could take 4-6 weeks and during our peak season it can be 7-9 weeks. If there is a deadline we will always try and accommodate.
  • Do you always promise to keep to the expected delivery date?
We make every effort to ensure we meet our delivery dates and they are rarely changed.  We keep you regularly updated between ordering and installation.
  • Will I need Planning Permission for an enclosure?
Generally not - as long as the building is 5 metres from the property.  However planning permission would be required for any commercial use, or for a location in a sensitive area like conservation area or place of outstanding natural beauty. If the site has been over developed over the years or the enclosure is taking up more than 50% of the entire garden planning permission may be required. We will help and advise where necessary.
  • Is my pool surround suitable for an enclosure?
A level paved area on a 4"- 6" concrete base is required. If it's an existing pool and the paving is not laid on concrete we provide you with a scale drawing showing the exact location for the concrete pads to be laid. If it's a new pool then a concrete base beneath the paving slabs is advisable.
  • If I need new paving of concrete pads laid do you offer this service?
No. We can provide drawings, advise the position of the concrete pads and liase with your local builder with what is required.
  • What type of glazing is used on the sides and ends?
We use toughened safety glass on all side and end walls. If you choose an elevated end or concertina doors (allowing you to push the enclosure back off the pool leaving an archway at one end) we would install clear polycarbonate on this end for safety reasons. Otherwise all glazing is glass not plastic. The thickness of the glass depends on the size of the sheet and this will depend on the overall size of the building.
  • What is the roof of the enclosure made of?
The roof is 10mm triple ply polycarbonate with 100% UV protected.
  • If I need a replacement piece of glass or new sheet for my roof in the future is this a service you offer or do I need a glazing company?
Yes. Even if it’s not a warranty claim we still offer this service to all our customers.  Installation is quick and simple due to the rubbers being used to hold the glass in place and not silicone.
  • Will I need to bolt the enclosure down after every use?
It is recommended that the enclosure be bolted down for the winter months or if high winds or a storm is forecast. When you are away from home it is best to secure the building at all times.
  • If it snows will I need to remove it from the roof?
It would have to be exceptional. We have calculations that prove the roof strength.  The roof will withstand 110kg per sq metre of snow on average. Calculations are made on each individual enclosure produced and are often more than this.
  • Is it difficult to clean the enclosure?
No. A squeegee, soft brush and hose pipe will suffice. There is no need to use a pressure washer. This is because the aluminium has a smooth surface which prevents dirt adhering to it.
  • Will I still need a floating cover on the pool?
Yes. This will help reduce condensation and keep the pool clean. A 6mm heat retention cover is best and will keep down heating costs.
  • Does the enclosure have any guttering?
No. It is not required on this type of structure.
  • How does the building arrive?
This depends on site access. Either fully assembled but unglazed, fully assembled except for the large end façade which would be glazed on site or totally unassembled because access is poor. We would advise the type of installation once a site visit has been made.  This would be confirmed in your written quotation.
  • How long will it take to erect the enclosure?
This will depend on whether it is assembled or not (as above). Each enclosure takes on average approximately 2-3 days to assemble on site. All this work is done by our own experienced engineers who have been factory trained.
  • What seals are there between each section?
All glazing is secured by EPDM rubber gaskets to ensure security & to give a weatherproof seal.
  • Can leaves and insects still get in pool when I have an enclosure installed?
You will never completely keep out all insects or leaves etc. due to the nature of the enclosure.  We try and make this difficult by installing rubbers, seals and brushes between the sections and on the base of the sections.
  • Will you do a site visit before I place an order?
Yes. This service is free of charge. Once we have given you an indication of cost and we have had detailed conversations regarding the pool and its surround we would organise a site visit in order to provide you with a firm written quotation. We would also provide free drawings if these are required for planning permission. Written quotation & computerised drawings are produced free of charge after each site visit.
  • Can an enclosure be mounted against the house?
Yes, if the pool is adjacent to the house. We can build one side or one end against the house. We can also mount the enclosure on a wall or use just as a sliding roof.
  • How does the enclosure operate?
Manually pushed open although we do offer the option of a motorised enclosure. Each section is mounted on wheels (4 per section – two per side) and with our patented guiding mechanism the building can be pushed one section at a time inside the next until the enclosure is pushed right off the pool. We would only advise having tracks installed if the paving were uneven or the enclosure was a wide commercial structure.
  • Can I slide all the sections one way and how long will it take?
This will depend on the size of the enclosure. It would take no longer than 5 minutes on an average size domestic pool. With all the sections going one way it will be necessary to have an elevating end panel or concertina doors. If you don’t want to push the whole enclosure back off the pool but only require a little ventilation then you can unclip one section and open from the centre which will only take a minute.
  • Can I open my enclosure every day?
Yes. Either by pushing the enclosure back leaving an archway at one end of the pool or for a quick swim on a hot day just by opening up the enclosure from the centre.
  • Can I open the enclosure when I’m on my own?
Yes providing the paving is suitable. The new guiding mechanism allows one person to open the enclosure alone. With larger or commercial enclosure it’s easier with two (one each side).
  • What colours are available?
We offer a full range of colours. There are standard colours at no additional cost but we also offer a bespoke colour service if you want to match the colour of an existing conservatory or the window frames of your home.
  • How many doors are there?
All standard enclosures have one door. Either one small sliding door in the small end façade or one large double sliding door in the large end façade. You can choose extra doors on the side at an additional cost or in place of an end door at a small additional cost.
  • Can I have a side door?
Yes – all models have this option.
  • Can the doors be locked?
Yes. Every door has a child safety lock. The doors can be locked from the inside by a latch and with keys from the outside. Two sets of keys are provided with each enclosure.
  • Will I be able to stand upright in my enclosure?
You can walk upright in our full height buildings. We can also tailor make a height to your specific requirements.
  • What guarantee on the enclosures do you offer?
Yes. We have an insurance backed guarantee which covers the aluminium structure. We also have a 10 year warranty on the UV protected polycarbonate roof.
  • Can I install the enclosure myself?
No. Because the warranty is insurance backed. Our own installation team who have been factory trained will need to do the full installation. This ensures the glazing and anchoring is in accordance with the manufacturers specification and protects the warranty.
  • Can I insure the enclosure for accidental damage?
    Yes.
  • Do I still need an automatic pool cleaner with an enclosure over my pool?
This type of cleaner is not necessary when the pool is enclosed.
  • What would be the temperature in the enclosure?
The temperature automatically rises in a conservatory when exposed to sunlight and an enclosure would be exactly the same. Even on a bright day, without sun, the air temperature will rise as will the water temperature.
  • Will I be able to swim all year around?
Yes, provided the pool is heated.
  • Must the air be heated?
Not necessarily. The pool water will heat the air.
  • Do you get condensation in the enclosure?
If the pool water temperature is higher than the air temperature there will be condensation. This clears quickly once ventilated. By opening a door for a few minutes it will start to clear.
  • Can I view an enclosure?
Yes. We have several on display at our showroom. If you do not want to visit us but prefer to look at an enclosure located nearer to your home address we can arrange for you to view a customer’s installation.
  • Can I speak to customers in my area that have had enclosures installed by Summit Leisure?
Yes. We are happy to provide this.
